Danasinga Gr3 winner in the Geelong Cup

25 October 2007

Even for our boy Danasinga this is a quick turn around. We are always saying that he gets a winner everyday but we only get one newsletter organised when another is required. This time it was the amazing win of The Fuzz in yesterdays Geelong Cup (Gr 3). Always travelling like a winner The Fuzz was going so well at the finish that a lap of honour was required to prove his point. Now don't question this form for a moment. Zavite fought on bravely for second and it took Caulfield Cup winner Master O'Reilly to run down Zavite last start at Gr 2 level. Indeed all of the form around The Fuzz this season is lined up with Gr 1 winners like Ice Chariot, Maldivian and Master O'Reilly so this win reinforces the fact he is one of the best middle distance horses in the Southern Hemisphere.

But don't take our word for it, let's ask David Hayes what he thinks. 'He's been working as good as anything in the stable' said Mr Hayes. Doesn't he have a handy mare called Miss Finland though? 'Miss Finland is the top seed but this bloke works and acts like a good horse and he's a pleasure to have around'. That's better, not quite as good as Miss Finland but still above most. Hayes and Craig Williams then left us in no doubt that this season is a bonus and next year he will be even better. It looks as if Tim Hughes has himself a 'real' horse.

We've spent a lot of time over the last couple of years saying that Danasinga is ideal for upgrading broodmares and therefore value adding mares and The Fuzz is a fine example. His mother had some ability winning 4 races up to 2100m and running 3rd in a listed race. Obviously the temptation would have been there for the owners to send her to a high priced shuttle stallion, especially after a big lunch and some slick 'can I do a deal for you' salesmanship however they instead took the sensible road and sent Drama Queen to Danasinga first year at stud and now have a mare that can justify sending to any stallion at any price and produce a highly saleable horse at any yearling sale. Or they might just sell her and change their lives with the profits. That's what canny breeding can do for you.

We ran out of space in yesterdays newsletter to wax lyrical about Danasinga and his new favourite stomping ground, Hong Kong. Danasinga is presently sitting 3rd on the General Sires list behind O'Reilly and Danehill but does lead the AEI, Wins and Individual Winners lists. This is an exceptional effort as he has only had 11 runners for 6 winners compared to Danehills 29 runners for 3 winners and O'Reillys 26 runners for 4 winners. I guess when your horses are winning 30% of their starts and you have 4 (yes four) undefeated runners there are not many lists you wont top. He still has Hamlets Ghost (now named Jackpot Delight) who has never had a horse finish in front of him after 6 starts, last seasons exciting horse Jade Dragonfly and New Zealand Gr 1 placegetter Diamond Brilliance (aka Habana) to run for him this season so things can only get better. Probably the best news for Danasinga though was the return to racing of the freakish Danacourt who, after 18 months off with injury, returned to racing on the weekend with a fantastic 5th at Group level and appears to be back on target.
