2007 Shines Brightly

26 March 2007

The 2007 calendar year is proving a wonderful time for all at Baerami Thoroughbreds. Like all rural producers, the presence of rain after years of drought has brought smiles to faces. Indeed since Christmas, as much rain has fallen as for all of 2006. This sounds much better than it actually is with the rain falling only registering what should be expected in a normal season but none the less some respite is appreciated and lush feed abounds, for now.

2007 has also seen race and sale results that confirm to all on farm that our direction and methods are delivering results. Walking away from the first 4 sessions of the Magic Millions with a seven times service fee average, 100 clearance and an enviable buyers list pleased us no end. This has subsequently been followed up with solid sales elsewhere and again a great buyers list. We consider who buys our stock every bit as important as price, both for the opportunity these horses will receive in future plus the affirmation that we are breeding the types that serious and genuine players want.

Race results since New Years day achieved by our graduates again stuns and impresses even us. Six stakes performances in Sydney and Melbourne by horses progressing from our paddocks, 8 Sydney city winners in 6 weeks including 4 in 8 days plus our two year old crop standing tall. The youngsters as a group have earnt prizemoney at over 90% of their starts, almost half have won, 60% have city wins or placings and their ability to make it to the track shows great soundness.

Then of course there is Danasinga. We again make the point that none of his results are directly attributable to us other than having the foresight to add him to the list of stallions on farm. So far this CALENDAR year he has had 3 new stakes winners plus 2 stakes placegetters, including a stakes winner and stakes placegetter on the weekend. Three year old filly One Love atoned for her disqualification at stakes level last start with an emphatic win in the new Zealand Bloodstock Stakes, the second leg of the NZB Southern Filly Of The Year series. Sarajay seems to run a great race without luck every week and again simply found one to good at Group 2 level on Saturday. Running a placing behind Sir Slick at this level is no disgrace as he has 3 Group 1 wins, a Group 2 win and a Group 1 placing from his racecourse efforts of the last 8 weeks so Sarajay is certainly mixing it with the best. We do tend to harp about the seemingly endless results of Danasinga in Asia but with his Singapore results last weekend and his results in Hong Kong it is little wonder that his popularity in this region continues to grow. In what is now a common occurrence, two race meetings in Hong Kong this week, a winner at each for Danasinga, a meeting last week, a winner - you get the picture.
